Position Summary
The Volunteer Facilities Maintenance Technician helps ensure the Sonoma County Alano Club remains a safe, clean, and welcoming place for members, guests, and individuals seeking recovery. This volunteer performs routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and minor repairs to keep the facility operating smoothly and to identify issues before they become larger problems.
Time Commitment
Flexible volunteer schedule
Stop by the Club regularly (as agreed upon) to inspect the facility and complete routine maintenance tasks.
Be available, when possible, for occasional maintenance needs or repairs.
Primary Responsibilities
Facility Inspections
Conduct regular walk-throughs of the building and grounds.
Check lighting, doors, windows, locks, plumbing fixtures, and restroom facilities.
Inspect HVAC equipment for proper operation and replace air filters as needed.
Identify maintenance concerns and recommend repairs when outside contractors may be required.
Preventative Maintenance
Perform routine maintenance to help prevent equipment failures and costly repairs.
Tighten loose hardware, lubricate hinges, replace light bulbs, change batteries, and complete other preventative tasks.
Monitor building systems and report any safety concerns promptly.
Minor Repairs
Complete small handyman projects such as:
Basic plumbing repairs (leaky faucets, running toilets, clogged drains)
Minor electrical tasks such as replacing switches, outlets, or light fixtures (within skill level and local code requirements)
Drywall patching and touch-up painting
Furniture assembly and repairs
Minor carpentry repairs
Installing shelves, bulletin boards, signage, and fixtures
Safety & Grounds
Help maintain a safe environment for members and guests.
Remove minor hazards and report issues requiring professional attention.
Assist with seasonal maintenance and occasional cleanup projects.
Coordinate with the Club Manager regarding supplies, tools, and larger repair needs.
Qualifications
Experience with general building maintenance or handyman work.
Ability to troubleshoot common plumbing, HVAC, and facility issues.
Comfortable using common hand and power tools safely.
Good judgment in recognizing repairs that require a licensed contractor.
Dependable, self-motivated, and able to work independently.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks including climbing ladders, bending, and kneeling.

Perform repairs in a safe and workmanlike manner.
Notify the Club Manager of significant maintenance concerns, safety hazards, or repairs beyond the scope of volunteer work.
Keep the maintenance area organized and tools stored safely.
Treat members, guests, and fellow volunteers with courtesy and respect while working in occupied areas.
