Book Exchange of Marin

Who We Are

The Book Exchange of Marin promotes child literacy, encourages a love of reading, and works to ensure that under-resourced Marin elementary and middle school children have access to good books. The schools we serve have at least 70% low-income students, and many have 90-100%. Over 90% of our participating students are people of color. The Book Exchange is a nonprofit community service organization run entirely by volunteers. Founded in 1989, the Book Exchange is a unique nonprofit community service organization that believes in the transformative power of literacy to change lives. Since our founding, we have distributed more than 500,000 free books to students from under-resourced Marin communities. Over the years, more than 600 teachers have come to the Book Exchange to get free books for their classroom libraries.
