Family Volunteer Day 2021 - Marin County

~Families Making a Difference~

November 20th, 2021 is Family Volunteer Day, a national day of service that celebrates the power of families working together to make a difference for their neighbors and communities.

Take time with your family this season to help others and make a positive mark on your community. Marin County opportunities will benefit all the organizations listed below.

Volunteer for one or more of these activities, whatever best suits your time and talent. All contributions are greatly appreciated!


Volunteer Opportunities

San Pedro Ridge Fire Safety

Help reduce the risk of fires in Marin by volunteering at the San Pedro Ridge this Family Volunteer Day!

Bring your family and friends and help remove flammable broom from the ridge. All tools provided. 

When: Saturday, November 20th

  • First shift: 9am - 11am 
  • Second shift: 11am - 1pm

Where: Osher Jewish Community Center, 200 N San Pedro Rd,  San Rafael, CA 94903

  • Volunteers can park in the JCC parking lot and enter the site through the JCC front doors 

Requirements and what to bring: 

  • Long sleeves, long pants, and sturdy, close-toed shoes
  • Eye protection, e.g. sun glasses 
  • Snacks and water
  • Proof of vaccination for everyone ages 12+
  • Masks required for everyone while in building

Children for Change

Community Food Distribution & Preparedness with Multicultural Center of Marin

Volunteer as a family this Family Volunteer Day and help distribute food to other families with the Multicultural Center of Marin! The Multicultural Center of Marin hosts a weekly food distribution to over 250 families in Marin.  Volunteers will sort and distribute food to community members. This joyful gathering of volunteers is a great way for children to see whole communities working together to support our own. Spanish ability is a wonderful, but not necessary

When? Saturday, November 20th, 7:30am – 9am

  • Arrive as early as 6:30 a.m. to unload the truck that comes from the SF/Marin Food Bank.  Assembling food bags starts at 7:00 a.m., families start arriving at 8:00

Where? 3240 Kerner Blvd, San Rafael (near Cardenas Market)

We are looking for 4-6 families to volunteer. Ideal for 3rd grade or older. Parents must accompany their students.

Making To-Go Meals with St. Vincent De Paul

Volunteer in the St. Vincent de Paul dining hall this Family Volunteer Day, make sandwiches, decorate cookies and assemble sack lunches which will be given out the following day to neighbors in need.  During the pandemic, St Vincent shifted from hot, sit-down meals to take-away meals but haven’t missed a single day in serving our community.

When? Saturday, November 20th, 2021 from 3:30pm - 5pm

Marin Municipal Water District

Mt. Tam Watershed Litter Cleanups: Ready to get some fresh air with your family and contribute to keeping the watershed clean?

We are looking for volunteers to remove trash from high-use areas, along waterways, and trails. This work protects critical habitats and waterways—clean areas promote responsible behavior. We will provide trash bags and sanitized trash-grabber tools.

This activity is suitable for families and individuals.  All participants must follow strict safety precautions and social distancing guidelines.

Make It Home

Make It Home helps families and individuals transitioning out of crisis or homelessness by collecting donated, gently used, and refurbished furnishings or household goods. Help a family Make It Home by donating any of the following: 

  • Single dressers

  • Small kitchen tables

  • Small kitchen appliances

  • Glassware (for non-alcoholic beverages)
