We're looking for Volunteers who can commit to regular, weekly on-site weekend shifts at our front desk as part of our Response Team.

This is an opportunity to connect with people over the phone, offer real-time solutions to a variety of concerns, coordinate field rescues, problem-solve situations with fellow agencies across the five counties we serve, educate the public about best practices for resolving wildlife conflicts, and become an integral part of rescue and rehabilitation without working directly with birds.

We receive calls from all over the Bay Area, and sometimes across the country and around the world. Reaching someone knowledgeable, trained to evaluate the situation, and calmly provide directions can make all the difference in bringing about a successful rescue.

This position offers an opportunity to learn about Northern California's native wildlife and participate in rescues through a less physically demanding role that relies on empathy and communication.

This is a seasonal role that requires commitment to weekly 4-hour shifts through September (at least once a week, though you're welcome to volunteer more than once a week).

"Baby bird season" is our busiest time of year and we need all the help we can get!

This role entails cleaning dishes, mopping, doing laundry, general cleaning, maintenance, and other tasks that support our clinic staff. 

In our bird clinic, we do work with live and dead feed, such as rodents, insects, feeder birds etc. While you wouldn't be directly feeding birds in this role, you would share an environment with all of these things and come across them, or pieces of them, in the dishes.

This role requires training before signing up for any shifts.

LITA (Love is the Answer) matches volunteers and their well-behaved, vaccinated pets with individuals living in long-term facilities or their private residence in Marin county. Your pet need not be certified but have good basic obedience and a willing personality. Commit to visit regularly, weekly, for a minimum of six months. 

Warehouse volunteers sort and box food donations and box or bag fresh produce. Working as a team volunteers check food for quality, sort by category, and box or bag for distribution in our warehouse sorting areas. This position does require bending, standing, and lifting.

The Outreach chair will arrange for MPC to participate in the various poetry and literacy festivals throughout the Bay Area including S.F, Litquake; Petaluma Poetry Walk; Bay Area book Festival; Sebastopol Poetry Festival and others. The Outreach Chair will coordinate with the festival or event  promoters; notify members of the opportunity to read by working with the Newsletter Chair, and signing up and organizing readers from the MPC membership.  The outreach Chair is authorized to create an Outreach committee  composed of members of MPC.  

MPC would prefer the outreach Chair to be a member of the Board to participate in the event planning with the Board .... meetings are  held in the evening of the second monday of the month, usually on zoom.   

Become a Slide Ranch Docent! We are looking for volunteers to support our Family Farm Days, special events, and special groups. Docents will receive training in animal safety when engaging with visitors, general site history and function, and special garden projects. Docents are also encouraged to volunteer regularly with animal husbandry and garden maintenance. ages 16+. Family Farm Days are on Saturdays. Other events and programs vary. The treasurer's job is to manage the MPC checking account and CD.  The treasurer writes checks for monthlynthly reader's honorariums and other obligations of MPC, reviews bank statements and reconciles them with the checkbook; reviews CD status; communicates with Event Chair re reader's honorariums; with the Membership Chair re deposits, and the bookkeeper re both checks and deposits.   

The treasurer reviews the financial reports provided by the bookkeeper and with the board chair prepares the annual budget.  Ability to use Quick Books and Excel would be helpful.   

MPC prefers this to be a Board position so the treasurer can answer questions at board meetings and participate in the financial and future planning with the Board. Board meetings are held on the evening of the seconde  second Monday of the month, usually on zoom.   

The treasurer will be a member of MPC and be eligible to submit poetry to the Member's Anthology and read in the Summer Traveling Show. and of course, attend our free monthly readings.

Fairfield PAL Teen Center

Fairfield PAL Teen Center is looking for patient, encouraging volunteers to help teens build the math skills they need for future career pathways, trade programs, and ASVAB preparation.

This is not about being a perfect math teacher. It is about being the kind of adult who can sit next to a teen, slow the problem down, explain it one more way, and help them realize, “Okay… I can actually do this.”

Our new ASVAB / Trades Math in 30 Days program will use a structured practice guide that includes skill-building ASVAB math exercises, two full-length practice tests, answer explanations, and topics such as whole numbers, fractions, mixed numbers, decimals, factoring, integers, and order of operations.

What Volunteers Will Do

Volunteers will help students practice and strengthen basic math skills connected to ASVAB readiness, trades programs, apprenticeships, and real-world problem solving.

A volunteer may help students:

Work through daily math practice pages
Review missed problems and understand where they got stuck
Practice test-taking strategies
Build confidence with fractions, decimals, percentages, basic algebra, measurement, and word problems
Prepare for practice tests

For some teens, math is the thing standing between them and a next step they really want.

This is a great fit for someone who loves basketball, understands the basics of the game, and wants to help teens build confidence on and off the court.

You do not need to be a professional referee or coach. You just need to be dependable, patient, fair, and willing to help teens learn while they play.

Fairfield PAL Teen Center is looking for volunteers who can help teens learn the game of pool in a fun, patient, and welcoming way.

This is a great fit for someone who enjoys billiards, knows the basics, and can help teens slow down, line up a shot, think ahead, and build confidence one turn at a time.

You do not need to be a tournament-level player. You just need to be dependable, encouraging, and willing to help teens learn the game with good sportsmanship and respect.

What Volunteers Will Do

Volunteers may help teens:

Learn basic pool rules and table etiquette
Understand cue safety and respectful use of equipment
Practice aiming, stance, grip, and smooth shots
Learn how to call a shot and think one move ahead
Play beginner-friendly games and challenges
Understand strategy without making it too complicated
Keep games fair, friendly, and fun
Welcome newer players who may feel nervous trying
Encourage patience, focus, and good sportsmanship
Help organize mini-tournaments or casual challenge nights

A teen who learns to slow down before a shot is also practicing how to slow down before a choice. A volunteer can turn a casual game into a quiet moment of coaching, connection, and confidence.

Help teens learn pool basics, practice skills, understand strategy, care for equipment, and enjoy the game in a safe and respectful way.

Volunteers may also help with casual tournaments, pool challenges, or drop-in recreation time.

Time Commitment

We are looking for volunteers who can help during after-school hours, special events, or scheduled billiards activities. A regular weekly commitment is helpful, but we are happy to discuss availability.

Fairfield PAL Teen Center is a youth-serving organization. All volunteers must complete PAL’s volunteer process before working with students.

At Leaven Kids, volunteers are heroes with a heart. Every day, they step in with courage and compassion, helping children believe in themselves, succeed in school, and build brighter futures. Whatever your skills, there’s a place for you to make an impact. Volunteers assist the children with academics (homework or other learning games), enrichment activities such as STEM, and group cooperative games. Leaven Kids has multiple sites in Fairfield, Vacaville, and Vallejo. Sites operate M-TH from 2:45 - 5PM. Volunteers can commit once a week or rotate in throughout the month as they are available. Volunteers deliver nutritious meals to homebound seniors, providing a welfare check and a friendly "Hello!" Often times, you are the only visitor our senior has had that day. You will use your own car and are welcome to volunteer with a spouse, partner or friend. We do offer reimbursement for mileage if requested. You need to be able to lift 25lbs and get in and out of a car easily. You would be assigned to do 1 route a week and we are asking for a commitment of at least 6 months (vacations are fine).

ALL volunteers are required to complete the following before volunteering:

Our Tellegacy program aims to provide companionship for you and our isolated seniors. The program consists of meeting with a senior 8 times over a few months and gathering information about their lives; their history. COA staff will compile a book of collected stories and photos at the end of the sessions for the seniors and their loved ones to enjoy. Online training is included. All volunteers must have their own transportation to get to the client.

Our Lunch Companion / Friendly Visitor program with a Meals on Wheels client aims to provide companionship and lunch for you and our isolated seniors. The program consists of meeting with a senior and enjoying a meal together. Online training is included. All volunteers must have their own transportation to get to the client, meals are provided and need to be picked up at the Meals on Wheels kitchen.

The Book Exchange of Marin is an all-volunteer organization focused on raising the literacy levels of Marin's most under-resourced elementary and middle school students. Each year, we bring students to our library facility in Terra Linda, where, working with our volunteers, they can select up to 10 free books to take home and keep. We have very strong relationships with Title I schools in Marin County and work closely with administrators and teachers to ensure we offer a selection of books of the greatest interest to students. Our program has been proven highly effective in raising the literacy levels of students who are reading below, and sometimes well below, their grade level, which is highly detrimental to their educational development.

Under the direction of our Board President, Bruce Burtch, we are seeking a volunteer to research and approach foundations, companies, service clubs, and individuals to fund our programming. Mr. Burtch is a nationally respected marketing and fundraising executive. This would be a virtual position, working closely with Mr. Burtch and the Book Exchange's volunteer staff. Currently, we have a robust funding program and a comprehensive list of potential funders. Our annual operational budget is approximately $100,00. We have met and exceeded our 2025-26 fundraising goals. The primary purpose of this position is to continue this successful fundraising program and significantly expand it to build a financially sound endowment for the organization.

Since 2008, the Napa County Bicycle Coalition (NCBC) has been working with local organizations, businesses, elected officials, and the public to align our transportation infrastructure with the needs of cyclists and other active transportation users. Our mission is to make riding a bicycle safe, convenient, and accessible anywhere in Napa County for riders of all ages and abilities. 

NCBC welcomes volunteers at all levels of our organization. Volunteers work in partnership with staff; they fill roles that are trained and untrained, one-time and ongoing, hands-on and strategic. Volunteers expand our capacity to meet our mission and contribute directly to making Napa County a friendlier and safer place to walk and bike.

Want to help our 90 year old museum preserve an exhibit showcasing the legacy of Californio Ranchos in Marin County? The Marin History Museum is seeking a volunteer with experience in 3D capture, virtual tours, or digital storytelling to help us preserve and share a temporary two-room exhibit. This exhibit will be taken down at the end of December, and we are looking to create a high-quality, interactive 3D virtual tour with integrated audio narration that can live on our website for long-term public access.

Key Responsibilities:

·      Capture a two-room exhibit space using 3D scanning, photogrammetry, or virtual tour software

·      Design and produce an interactive virtual walkthrough experience

·      Incorporate audio narration or interpretive elements to enhance visitor engagement

·      Collaborate with museum staff to ensure accurate representation of exhibit content

·      Deliver a final product that can be embedded or hosted on the museum’s website

Preferred Skills & Experience:

·      Experience with 3D capture tools

·      Familiarly with virtual tour platforms or web-based interactive media

·      Audio recording/editing experience (a plus)

·      Strong attention to detail and ability to work within a timeline

Support Provided: Museum staff will provide a script and a narrator for the audio component and will be available to collaborate throughout the project to ensure accuracy and alignment with exhibit goals.

Do you enjoy helping people, making new friends and learning about and working with horses? Giant Steps has an opportunity for you! Located near Hwy 37 south of Petaluma, Giant Steps needs volunteers to assist with adaptive horseback riding.

A typical volunteer shift starts with coming into the barn a half hour before the lesson time to check the roster for your assignment. It will be either side walker or horse leader. You then assist with getting the horses ready and take them out to the arena. Each lesson is 45 minutes long. After the lesson, the volunteers put the horses away and get the horses ready for the next lesson. The minimum volunteering time is 1 lesson or 1.5 hours, but you can volunteer for multiple lessons.

Once I receive the completed application, I will send details on how to sign up for an orientation. Orientation is 2.5 hours at our property and is a mixture of learning policies and procedures, and hands on learning working with horses. We also require a background check for each volunteer. The background check is completed for us by Bchex and the information is submitted online. The cost is $19.

After orientation you can sign up to volunteer in lessons. Currently our lessons are held 10am-5pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10:30am-5pm on Wednesdays and Fridays, and 10am-4pm on Saturdays. We do not have programming that needs volunteers on Sundays or Mondays right now. Our term are either 12 weeks or 6 weeks long. We strongly prefer that you sign-up for the entire term on the same day and time. For example, the 10am lesson on Tuesday for 12 weeks. If that is not possible, we can always use substitutes!
