Join the great team of volunteers supporting the Sonoma County Philharmonic, an all-volunteer sixty-five member community orchestra that has performed across Sonoma County for over twenty-five years. Volunteer opportunities included greeting patrons, taking tickets, assisting with seating, and selling tickets and refreshments. Benefits include meeting great people and enjoying beautiful classical music for free. Concerts are held on four week-ends per season, each having a Saturday evening and a Sunday afternoon performance. The 2026-27 season performances will be Oct. 3rd and 4th, Nov. 14th and 15th, Feb. 27th and 28th, and April 17th and 18th. Volunteers will be enrolled in an email list to be contacted prior to each performance weekend and can volunteer for any performance that is convenient. All concerts are held in the Jackson Theater at the Sonoma Country Day School.

Join Catholic Charities' Caring Rides Drivers and perform an invaluable service to the seniors in your community! Volunteers in the Caring Rides program provide transportation to medical appointments, grocery runs, social activities, and other various errands and engagements. When there are few viable transportation options, this program encourages seniors to keep mobile and stay connected with their community. 

Volunteers drive their own vehicle and choose rides based on what works for your changing schedule. All rides remain within the city of Santa Rosa.

Join us at the Caritas Center in downtown Santa Rosa to help out as a Volunteer Receptionist! The receptionist is the first point of contact for individuals seeking services through Catholic Charities. They are responsible for creating a warm, safe, and respectful atmosphere for clients accessing our homeless Drop-in Center, Family Center, and case management services. This role requires excellent communication skills, compassion, professionalism, and the ability to interact with individuals from diverse backgrounds using a trauma-informed approach.

Shifts are Monday - Friday, from 8AM - 12PM and 1PM-5PM. We encourage volunteers to commit to one shift per week. All receptionist volunteers will receive training, resources, and support from Catholic Charities staff members. Come serve your community in the heart of Santa Rosa!

Learning, Fun, and Friendship at our new Aging in Place program. We are actively seeking an enthusiastic volunteer to assist the Program Coordinator with checking in clients, setting and cleaning up the community room, encouraging and assisting during our exercise program and helping with handouts during the nutrition program. Moving tables (on wheels), chairs, tote boxes and exercise gear (e.g. beach balls) will periodically be required. We are looking for a person with a compassionate persona and a warm smile.Volunteering is simple and rewarding. The program meets on Tuesdays from 2-3  and Thursdays from 2-3 for eight weeks. In just a few hours a week, you can make a meaningful difference. Our Tellegacy program aims to provide companionship for you and our isolated seniors. The program consists of meeting with a senior 8 times over a few months and gathering information about their lives; their history. COA staff will compile a book of collected stories and photos at the end of the sessions for the seniors and their loved ones to enjoy. Online training is included. All volunteers must have their own transportation to get to the client.

Virtual Volunteer Tutor/Mentor Opportunity 

Step Up Tutoring is seeking volunteers to provide virtual 1-on-1 tutoring to 2nd-6th grade students from underserved communities to help build fundamental math and literacy skills and to provide support and encouragement. The Volunteer Facilities Maintenance Technician helps ensure the Sonoma County Alano Club remains a safe, clean, and welcoming place for members, guests, and individuals seeking recovery. This volunteer performs routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and minor repairs to keep the facility operating smoothly and to identify issues before they become larger problems.

Flexible volunteer schedule

Stop by the Club regularly (as agreed upon) to inspect the facility and complete routine maintenance tasks.

Be available, when possible, for occasional maintenance needs or repairs.

Conduct regular walk-throughs of the building and grounds.

Check lighting, doors, windows, locks, plumbing fixtures, and restroom facilities.

Inspect HVAC equipment for proper operation and replace air filters as needed.

Identify maintenance concerns and recommend repairs when outside contractors may be required.

Perform routine maintenance to help prevent equipment failures and costly repairs.

Tighten loose hardware, lubricate hinges, replace light bulbs, change batteries, and complete other preventative tasks.

Monitor building systems and report any safety concerns promptly.

Complete small handyman projects such as:

Basic plumbing repairs (leaky faucets, running toilets, clogged drains)

Minor electrical tasks such as replacing switches, outlets, or light fixtures (within skill level and local code requirements)

Drywall patching and touch-up painting

Furniture assembly and repairs

4-Hour Volunteer Shift

The Volunteer Counterperson is often the first point of contact for members, newcomers, and visitors to the Sonoma County Alano Club. This role combines customer service, hospitality, and light retail responsibilities with compassionate support for individuals seeking recovery from alcohol and substance use disorders. Volunteers help maintain a safe, welcoming, and respectful environment where everyone is treated with dignity and encouraged in their recovery journey.

Greet members, guests, and newcomers with warmth, respect, and compassion.

Help create an atmosphere that is welcoming, safe, and recovery-oriented.

Answer general questions about the club, meeting locations, and schedules.

Offer basic encouragement and support to individuals seeking recovery while maintaining appropriate boundaries.

Be attentive to members or guests who may need assistance and notify staff or leadership when additional support is needed.

Prepare meeting rooms before scheduled meetings by arranging chairs and ensuring rooms are clean and ready.

Brew fresh coffee and maintain coffee stations throughout the shift.

Help clean and reset meeting rooms after meetings when needed.

Operate the cash register/POS system to sell snacks, beverages, literature, and merchandise.

Accurately handle cash, credit card, and electronic transactions.

Restock merchandise, beverages, and snacks as needed.

Maintain an organized and welcoming front counter area.

Perform light cleaning, including wiping tables and counters, emptying trash, sweeping, and keeping common areas neat.

Help maintain a clean, safe, and comfortable environment for all who use the facility.

Report maintenance, safety, or supply concerns to the Club Manager or Shift Supervisor.

Friendly, dependable, and punctual.

Comfortable interacting with people from diverse backgrounds and life experiences.

Able to communicate with empathy, patience, and respect.

Basic cash handling or retail experience is helpful but not required.

Ability to stand for extended periods and perform light lifting (up to approximately 20 pounds).

Northern Sonoma County CERT volunteers throughout Sonoma County to teach Red Cross hands-on and certification for Adult & Pediatric First Aid, Adult and Pediatric CPR/AED, and First Aid for Severe Trauma ("Stop the Bleed") as well as Fire Extinguisher Training.   We need volunteers to assist with this, especially retired nurses or medical professionals who we can get certified as Red Cross Instructors.

Need volunteers to help with annual disaster simulation by spending 6 hours - getting makeup ("moulage") to appear to be injured, being positioned in a disaster area, being rescued and transported to medical operations ("triage") and then being "treated" by First Responders, CERT volunteers and Animal Responders.  We hold the disaster simulation on different dates and locations in Sonoma County each year so if you are interested we will get in touch with you and when the date, time, and location are determined we will see if you are available.  Great opportunity to have your picture taken as a severely injured "victim" or "patient."

We're looking for folks who are willing to drive to and from our facility and finder locations to pick up/drop off sick and injured birds, or transfer them to/from other rehabilitation facilities. The furthest facility is in Fairfield.

The PEARLS (Program to Encourage Active, Rewarding Lives) program is seeking compassionate volunteers to become coaches to older adults in Sonoma County. As a coach, you will work one-on-one with older adults experiencing depression and or isolation. Pick of the Litter has moved into a much larger location, and we need enthusiastic volunteers to help us keep the shelves full. Warehouse volunteers sort donations, clean items, and price merchandise so it can get out onto the sales floor quickly. This is a hands-on role that directly supports our mission by helping us turn donated goods into funds that benefit cats in need. You need to be able to lift 25lbs and get in and out of a car easily. You would be assigned to do 1 route a week and we are asking for a commitment of at least 6 months (vacations are fine).

Our Lunch Companion / Friendly Visitor program with a Meals on Wheels client aims to provide companionship and lunch for you and our isolated seniors. The program consists of meeting with a senior and enjoying a meal together. Online training is included. All volunteers must have their own transportation to get to the client, meals are provided and need to be picked up at the Meals on Wheels kitchen.

Do you enjoy helping people, making new friends and learning about and working with horses? Giant Steps has an opportunity for you! Located near Hwy 37 south of Petaluma, Giant Steps needs volunteers to assist with adaptive horseback riding.

A typical volunteer shift starts with coming into the barn a half hour before the lesson time to check the roster for your assignment. It will be either side walker or horse leader. You then assist with getting the horses ready and take them out to the arena. Each lesson is 45 minutes long. After the lesson, the volunteers put the horses away and get the horses ready for the next lesson. The minimum volunteering time is 1 lesson or 1.5 hours, but you can volunteer for multiple lessons.

Once I receive the completed application, I will send details on how to sign up for an orientation. Orientation is 2.5 hours at our property and is a mixture of learning policies and procedures, and hands on learning working with horses. We also require a background check for each volunteer. The background check is completed for us by Bchex and the information is submitted online. The cost is $19.

After orientation you can sign up to volunteer in lessons. Currently our lessons are held 10am-5pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10:30am-5pm on Wednesdays and Fridays, and 10am-4pm on Saturdays. We do not have programming that needs volunteers on Sundays or Mondays right now. Our term are either 12 weeks or 6 weeks long. We strongly prefer that you sign-up for the entire term on the same day and time. For example, the 10am lesson on Tuesday for 12 weeks. If that is not possible, we can always use substitutes!
