The Literacy Connection Program is now ending its 11th year of serving the needs of teachers and students in Sonoma County K-12 grades.   Each year the focus of the program changes to match the changing needs of students and programs in our school districts.

All volunteers going into the classroom are required to be fingerprinted and to have a current TB test.   A general training/overview for volunteering in the classroom is provided.  Some schools provide a structured training for their particular program.

Schools begin closing  at the end of May and reopen beginning in August.  Each school district has it’s own calendar of opening and closing dates.

Volunteers are asked to commit to one full school year of volunteering – 2 hours per week on a selected day.  The volunteer chooses the day of the week and the time of day that he/she wants to volunteer.

Our teacher survey of those who had volunteers in their classrooms indicate the continued value of volunteers as academic helpers and role models for good citizens.  Teachers report that some programs could not exist if it were not for the wonderful volunteers who come forward to help.

I hope you will join our committed team of academic helpers, helping with reading and math, especially for those students who are English learners.

It’s not too early to get ready for the Fall semester.  Call today to get more information and to share with me your background and interest in this very important work.
